Transsexual Jesus Play Stirs Controversy
Society as a whole continues its downward spiral as a new play about a transsexual Jesus hits the stage. Playwright Jo Clifford, formerly John Clifford, wrote and stars in the controversial play. The odd thing about it is that Clifford can’t seem to figure out why there has been such an uproar over the play.
The play is called “Jesus, Queen of Heaven” and opened this past week in Glasgow; a huge protest by evangelicals has prompted the writer of the play to throw the bigot card. She said in the UK Times Online:
“Most of it is happening because of a complete misunderstanding of what I am and what I am trying to do … They thought awful, sacrilegious things were going to happen on stage,” she said. Her critics, she added, ought to reread the Gospel. “Jesus said: ‘judge not’.”
I don’t know Mr. Ms. Clifford, did you ever think that you may have offended them by portraying their Lord and Savior as a transsexual? No it couldn’t be that, this is art, isn’t it? Don’t expect the media to come to the defense of offended Christians over this play; but could you imagine if Clifford had written a play portraying a transsexual Mohamed? A video of the Christian protesters is below.
